Overview

The Computer Science, Management Information Systems and Industrial Technology Departments jointly offer a Master of Science degree in Computer Information Technology. Computer science is focused on the study of algorithms, the software that implements them, the properties of computers and the processes for creating these technologies. Industrial technology focuses on computer networking and the hands-on manipulation of the components and hardware systems that make up a computer and computer network. Management information systems focuses on the use of information technology for end-users and manipulating data for decision making.

Program

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER INFORMATION 
TECHNOLOGY

33 credits as follows:

Core Courses (18 credits):
CS 501 Foundations in Computer Science I
CS 502 Computing and Communications Technology
MIS 501 Foundations of MIS
MIS 502 e-Business and Information Technology
CET 501 Applied Networking Technology
CET 533 Digital Communication


Specialization (12 credits): 
Students select 12 credits from one of the three following specializations in consultation with an adviser.

Specialization 1 — Computer Science Electives:
CS 407, 410, 423, 460, 462, 463, 473, 481, 490, 530, 550, 570, 580, 590

Specialization 2 — Management Information Systems electives:
MIS 510, 515, 550, 561, 565, 569

Specialization 3 — Networking and Telecommunication Tech Electives:
CET 402, 405, 443, 449, 453, 479, 502, 513, 543, 559; IT 502, 510, 551, 596, 598

Capstone (3 credits):
Students may register for this course upon completion of core requirements.
CIT 595 Applied Research in Computer Information Technology

Students may register for this course upon completion of core requirements. Ideally, a corporate-sponsored, integrated group project which will demonstrate professional level command of performance goals as judged by a team of faculty from each specialization. Two deliverables: a paper of publishable quality describing the goals, objectives, processes and outcomes; an oral presentation (to be videotaped and archived together with the paper). May be taken after core requirements are completed and concurrently with courses in the chosen specialization.

Note: A maximum of 6 credits at the 400-level is allowed.
