Master of Science Degree Program

Admission Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Education with a minimum GPA of 2.70 on a 4.00 point scale.

Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendations are required which attest to the student’s competency as an educator, to the student’s academic potential and to the student’s disposition, attributes and personal characteristics necessary to complete an advanced program of study. The recommendations must be completed following the directions of the appropriate recommendation forms enclosed: one by a faculty member who can attest to academic capabilities, and one by a professional educator who can attest to teaching competency.

  Application Essay: A typed two page autobiographical essay describing the relationship between the graduate program and the student’s career and life goals. Please use the cover sheet provided.

CT Certification and Experience Qualifications:

1.   A current State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate is required for students entering the program. A photocopy of the applicant’s Teaching Certificate must be included as part of the application.

2.   Proof of having completed the State of Connecticut statutory requirements (Special Education; Drugs & Alcohol; etc.) must be included as part of the application.

3.   Basic computer literacy.

  Department Interview: Applicants participate in an interview where the student's qualifications, interests, and motivation toward the successful completion of a Master of Science Degree program are examined. Interview sessions are scheduled individually. Contact the Reading and Language Arts Department for further information or an appointment.
