Mission

The School of Arts and Sciences prepares students to take their place in a complex and interdependent world as thoughtful people and involved citizens. We encourage students to read perceptively, think clearly and creatively, communicate accurately and effectively, and sharpen their powers of analysis and synthesis. We effect these goals by facilitating excellence in teaching and fostering faculty and student scholarship, creativity, and community involvement.

The School of Arts and Sciences offers M.A. degrees in biological sciences, communication, English, history, public history, information design, mathematics, modern language and psychology and the M.S. in biological sciences, criminal justice, data mining, geography, international studies, natural sciences,  and mathematics. It also participates in the Interdisciplinary M.S. Degree: Computer Information Technology, specialization: Computer Science, Networking and Telecommunication Technology.

Further, academic departments within the School of Arts and Sciences provide M.S. degrees in education, such as Art Education, Music Education, Mathematics for certified Elementary and Secondary Teachers, Natural Sciences, Spanish and TESOL.   Arts and Sciences departments also offer the post-baccalaureate certification program for secondary and K-12 school teachers, in conjunction with the School of Education and Professional Studies.

Two graduate-level Official Certificate Programs are offered through the School of Arts and Sciences: Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Health Studies (Interdisciplinary) and Public Relations/Promotions.
