Center for Public Policy and Social Research
Academic research and outreach in public policy, practical politics and the social sciences
Steven Kliger, Executive Director
Eileen Hurst, Assistant Director

The Center for Public Policy and Social Research, designated a Connecticut higher education center of excellence by the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University System, is located in the Robert C. Vance Academic Center, with a Social Research satellite office in DiLoreto Hall. The Center, incorporating the William A. O'Neill Endowed Chair in Public Policy and Practical Politics, as well as the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy, offers innovative academic, research and outreach programs which promote a greater understanding of the history, structure, processes, personnel and policies of State government, illustrate the important role of our state’s contribution to national policy and encourage active participation in local and state affairs through thoughtful citizenship and public service. These programs include: the archiving of the official papers of former Governor William A. O'Neill, former State Representative John J. Woodcock III- America's "father" of the Lemon Law, and those of other significant figures in Connecticut’s public policy history; an active program of oral history complementing the archives; and sponsorship of symposia dealing with critical public policy issues. The Center plans informational seminars of assistance to Connecticut's state government, municipalities and non-profit organizations.

The Center’s Social Research unit functions as an affordable resource for local governments, non-profit organizations and communities needing expert consultancy or assistance with survey research, communication campaigns, program evaluation and project development. The Center has assumed a leading role in providing for the professional training and education of government officials, as well. Among the resources available through the Center are expert faculty and capable students from the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Professional Studies, and Technology. The Center offers faculty and students a valuable opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and experience to real-world environments.
