Mission Statement

The Central Connecticut State University Mail Services Department carries two primary responsibilities within its main mission:

1. Pick up and distribute campus mail between various locations throughout the university.

2. Receive and distribute incoming U.S. mail, and to deliver prepared outgoing U.S. mail to the U.S. Postal Services New Britain facility, as well as special preparation forwarding via commercial carriers. Both of these functions are for the official internal business of the university and are not intended to be used for personal or private business purposes.

Mail Location

The Mail Services Department operates from two locations:  the main sorting and processing office in East Hall; and the satellite facility in the Student Center  (for student mail only) .

East Hall Main Office Hours:

8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Mon thru Fri

All resident student mailboxes are located in the Student Center*. Boxes are also available for commuter students to rent. See the Mail Services attendant in the Student Center.

Resident Student Mailboxes

In order to be assigned a mailbox and a mailbox lock combination, all resident students (including those who previously had a mailbox assignment) must come to the Mail Services office at East Hall (Bldg #26 on the Campus Map) with your C.C.S.U. ID card. Your assigned mailbox will remain the same for the duration of your residence at the university. It is very important that your mailbox be checked regularly because much important information from the university will be sent to your campus address exclusively.  Please call Mail Services at 860-832-2528 with questions or comments.  Failure to secure a campus mailbox will result in your not receiving any mail that may be addressed to a university address. This mail will simply be returned to the sender. For those students who already have been assigned a campus mailbox, please be sure to check for your mail frequently.  Mail not picked up will be returned to the sender.

How to Avoid Delays

Delivering Student Mail
Student mail is sorted into box numbers by the USPS at New Britain, and then the presorted bags are picked up by CCSU personnel each morning at 7:30 AM for distribution to the Student Center student mailboxes. By 3:00 PM of each day mail will be available for retrieval.  If you receive a parcel that is too large to fit the mailbox, a notice will be provided, and this notice is to be given to the Mail Services attendant, along with a student I.D., in order to receive the item.  In the event that notification is given for receipt of a piece of traceable mail, i.e. Express, Registered, Certified, UPS, FedEx, a student I.D. as well as a signature will be required at the point of pick-up.

Inter-Agency Courier Service

This is a better choice if mailing between state agencies; and can be used at no cost to your department. The state-operated Inter-agency Courier Service offers a 24 hr. maximum delivery time for inter-agency mail and packages weighing 30 lbs. or less. Simply address the envelope or package as you normally would, and clearly mark it  "Courier Service."  Click on the link above for complete addresses of all Connecticut state agencies eligible for this service.

Student Mail Addressing Requirements
It is a top priority, for us, to deliver student mail as quickly and efficiently as possible. You can help; by providing the proper addressing format to all who send you mail. This correct student address is:

The four number segment following the zip code begins with the numeral 4; the P.O. Box number also begins with the numeral 4 instead of the numeral 2.
Please follow this format exactly as shown. This will make all the difference in quick delivery of your mail.  For addressing information, please see the Mail Services attendant at the Student Center.
Where to Buy Stamps
As a general rule; Most gas stations sell individual stamps. Most supermarkets sell them; but usually in books only. Stamps may also be purchased on campus from an automated stamp vending machine located on the first floor of Student Center. Stamps may also be purchased at the USPS main facility on Chestnut Street in downtown New Britain. One can buy stamps on-line: click here and then click on "Buy Stamps." Stamps will be delivered directly to you at your mailing address. If you are unsure of how much postage is required, bring the mail item to Mail Services in East Hall so we can weigh it and advise you accordingly. http://www.usps.com/common/sitemap.htm?from=global&page=0075sitemapshapeimage_15_link_0
