CAT Exam

Test Description

All prospective administrators enrolled in Connecticut administrator preparation programs seeking a recommendation for the Initial Educator Certification for Intermediate Administration or Supervision (#092) must pass the CAT in order to be certified.

The CAT consists of four modules. The first two Instructional Analysis modules—one  elementary and one secondary—require candidates to take the role of an instructional supervisor. Candidates are asked to review, analyze, and prepare recommendations for support in response to a teacher's unit plan, student work, and a brief video clip of a teaching episode.

The second two School Improvement modules—also one elementary and one secondary—ask  candidates to take the role of an administrator, review school data and community information, and describe a school improvement process.

Total testing time for the four modules is six and one half hours. The minimum pass score is “eight” for the CAT, effective October 15, 2013.
