A service of the Media Center, the FCC lab is for faculty use in developing a wide variety of computer applications for teaching, research, and publication. The lab is equipped with software and hardware for both Windows and Macintosh platforms. Staff is available in the lab or the Media Center to assist with this facility and other resources in developing multimedia-teaching materials. (Please note that in order to log on to a PC, you must have a BlueNet ID. Applications are available in the FCC lab or from Information Services, Barnard Hall, room 034.)
The lab provides for:
- Digital Video editing and output, on both Windows and Mac.
- Scanning text pages to editable word processing documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Scanning photographs, charts, or 35mm slides and negatives for use in publications, presentations, web pages and class handouts.
- Editing scanned graphics and picture files with the latest software, both Windows and Mac.
- Creating overhead transparencies in black & white or color
- Translating text or graphics files between popular formats such as PC/Windows and Macintosh
- Creating hypertext presentations of data and course materials for use in the classroom.
- Creating Interactive CD-ROMs that include text, images, sound, and video.
- Digitizing still and moving video images for use in multimedia materials and the web.
- Recording computer presentations to videotape and CD-ROM.
- Creating 35mm slides from computer presentations (PowerPoint).
