Dr. Karen Coale Tracey is a Professor and Department Chair of the Computer Electronics and Graphics Department in CCSU’s School of Technology. Dr. Tracey has been teaching at CCSU since 1989. The past several years, Dr. Tracey has been a popular instructor of many successful educational sessions for Connecticut's Town Clerks.

 

On December 9, 10 & 11, 2013, the Connecticut Town Clerks Association and Center for Public Policy & Social Research held a 3 days seminar at the Alumni Hall at CCSU.

 

Monday, December 9, 2013, a presentation about “Other Duties of Town Clerks” was conducted by a selected panel of Connecticut’s Town Clerks. They shared the knowledge earned by their professional experiences.

 

Tuesday, December 10, Professor Dave Fearon from CCSU School of Business Management and Organization presented the session “Making a Perfect Town Clerks Office”. Dr. Fearon is well known by Connecticut Town Clerks for facilitating highly engaging, hands-on learning for Clerks from the smallest town to the largest city.

 

On the same day Mr. Al Ilg, Acting CFO, City of Hartford, CT, shared some of the knowledge gained through his decades of city management about “Municipal Budgets and Town Clerks: A Guide to Getting Involved,” to help participants to better understand the municipal budget process, from the perspective of the Offices of Town Clerks.

On May 6, 7 & 8, 2013, the CT Town Clerks Association & Center for Public Policy & Social Research at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) held a 3 days seminar on "Vital Statistics" presented by the Office of Jane Purtill (State Registrar of Vital Records, CT Department of Public Health) and "Business and Professional Communication" by Professor Ben Tyson (Department of Communication CCSU)

 

Town Clerks from all over the state of Connecticut attended the event.

How the Mechanics of Elections are Impacted by Politics by Dr. Paul Petterson, Chair, CCSU Political Science Department

proIIDr. Petterson is Associate Professor and Chair of the Political Science Department at Central Connecticut State University, where he has taught since 1995. His areas of expertise include American Politics, Comparative Politics and Public Administration. He teaches courses on the American Presidency and Political Parties, and his research includes election law, New England politics and democratic participation. He also teaches online courses in Public Administration for Charter Oak State College.

 

 

 

 

 

proDr. Baten, who earned an MBA from Wharton School of Business and a doctorate in Education from Harvard University, is an associate professor at CCSU’s School of Business, in the Department of Management and Organization. His research focus is on organizational behavior, particularly in the public and nonprofit sectors. He is also the founder and principal of the Baten Group, a consulting firm focused on developing effective organizations.

In 2003 CPPSR entered into partnership with the CT Town Clerks Association (CTCA) to offer professional development seminars for its membership. Making use of CCSU’s outstanding faculty and its institutional resources, CPPSR has since provided training leading to official State of CT certification, basic and advanced professional certifications and certification by the International Institute for Municipal Clerks, in which CPPSR has served as the CT affiliate since 2007.
