  Field Based Training

The Supervised Counseling Practicum (CNSL 503) is a one-semester, 100 hour placement, usually in an urban school setting during the students' second year, after they have been accepted into candidacy. Practicum students participate in a variety of counseling experiences and become acquainted with the activities of a school guidance office. Students are provided with close supervision that includes review of video and audio taped counseling sessions.

The Internship (CNSL 591)for non-teachers is a 10 month, full time intensive field placement following the practicum experience and completion of all required coursework. For certified teachers with at least 3 years of experience, 600 hours over the course of two semesters will satisfy the internship requirement. Students enrolled in the internship also attend a weekly seminar course.
