                         Natural Helpers

Natural helpers are students selected by peer nomination as people with naturally good listening skills, and generally easy people to talk to. They participate in a four day training in August, just before school starts. The training includes listening and referral skills, dispute intervention, drug and alcohol information, self care, and a number of other topics. They are then available to the University Community as a resource for outreach and referral.

Natural Helper Nomination Form

Natural helpers are students selected by peer nomination as people with naturally good listening skills, and generally easy people to talk to.  The selection process involves interviewing any nominated students who indicates that he or she is interested.  From the interview process we usually select about 30 students. These students participate in a four day training in August, just before school starts. The training includes listening and referral skills, dispute intervention, drug and alcohol information, self care, and a number of other topics. They are then available to the University Community as a resource for outreach and referral.  They continue to meet on a weekly basis for training and to plan programming.

We are asking you to send us the name(s) of anyone who you believe would make a good natural helper.  In order for this form to be valid we must get the complete name, and an accurate phone number and/or email address.
