Maintaining Legal Status

It is the Sole responsibility of all international students to maintain legal status in the United States.
  * Register and attend class full time (Graduate-9 credits & undergraduates-12 credits) every semester with the exception of your last semester.
  * Do not work off campus without authorization.
  * Report change of name, address, major and academic level.
  * Check expiration date on Form I-20 (page 1 item #5) and start process of
Form I-20 extension.

All events that affect maintaining legal status in the United States are reported in SEVIS and some of these events include:
  * Full time course of study reported each semester.
  * Change of address, major, academic level change, employment off campus, Form I-20 extension, suspension or withdrawal from school and reduced course load.

Student information must be reported in a timely manner. Failure to maintain status puts you “Out of Status” and automatically you lose all F-1 student status benefits.
