Grant Opportunities for Faculty The George R. Muirhead Center for International Education actively seeks funding and supports faculty grant-writing to a variety of public and private sponsors to support international initiatives that benefit CCSU faculty and students, as well as the citizens of our local and global communities. Presented below is a sample of the many organizations – both U.S.- and foreign-based – which support grants in the area of international education. The George R. Muirhead Center for International Education strongly encourages faculty to engage in grant writing to support their scholarly interests abroad, as well as here on campus. Presented below is a list of some of the major sources of public and private funding.
The American Council of Learned Societies sponsors grants for faculty to conduct overseas research and study utilizing funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. State Department and private foundations. The Council for International Educational Exchange conducts study tours overseas for U.S. faculty. The Council for International Exchange of Scholars administers the U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program and worldwide Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program on behalf of the U.S. State Department. The Fulbright Scholar program supports overseas research and teaching grants for U.S. faculty; the Scholar-in-Residence program supports scholars and professors from abroad to teach and conduct research at U.S. institutions of higher education.
The German Academic Exchange Service is a private, publicly funded, self-governing organization of the institutions of higher education in Germany. The DAAD promotes international academic relations, especially through the exchange of students and faculty. The organization provides grants for faculty to perform research and/or to lead student tours in Germany.
IIE administers over 250 grant programs for public and private sponsors
The International Research & Exchanges Board sponsors several grant programs which fund U.S. faculty and researchers study and conduct research abroad. These programs include:
The sponsor will provide support for higher education faculty to teach in low-income countries (per capita GNP of U.S. $6,200 or less) other than their own. Eligible applicants must hold (or if retired, have held) a full-time college or university appointment for three or more years, but need not hold (or have held) a specific rank. Grants are available for up to ten months. The United States Department of State The United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs sponsors numerous programs designed to foster international cooperation and understanding.
