BRITAIN - June 6, 2008 – Artist and CCSU
Professor of Art James L. Buxton Jr., will
exhibit at the Greater New Britain Art
Alliance’s Downtown Gallery. The one-man show
is entitled “Rivers Deep.” It will open June 19
and run through July 26.
Professor
Buxton will attend the June 19 gallery
opening and reception. Scheduled for 4:30-7:30
p.m., the event is open to the public without
charge. Refreshments will be served.
The show features Buxton’s colorful and
evocative three-dimensional works in wood as
well as a number of his paintings. “‘Rivers
Deep’ speaks to the many complexities of life,
life experiences,
and the questions about its answers and
journeys,” said Professor Buxton, who has
been a member of the CCSU faculty since 1991.
He graduated from Cornell University in 1982 and
earned Master of Fine Arts degrees (in sculpture
and in printmaking) from the University of
Pennsylvania in 1985. He also studied at the
Paris Academy in France.
A partial listing of other solo exhibitions
featuring Professor Buxton’s art
includes such diverse venues as
Westchester Community College, the Farmington
Art Guild, the Winfisky Gallery in Salem, MA,
and the Sibley Hall and Tjaden Hall Galleries in
Ithaca, NY. He has also been represented in
group shows at CCSU, the Hospital for Special
Care in New Britain, the African-American
Affairs Commission of Hartford, the Madison Mile
Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in Madison, CT,
Gateway Community College in New Haven,
and the Essex Art Association.
The Downtown Gallery is located at 117 West Main
Street and is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5
p.m. and by appointment. All gallery shows are
free.
