Goals, Strategies and Tactics

Goals are long-term objectives that will directly contribute to achieving our outcomes. Strategies are specific actions (or a set of actions) that will be taken to achieve a goal or group of goals. Tactics are a further breakdown of strategies and can be readily assigned to an individual or group (not included below).

Goal A: Improve the advising system for students.

Goal Team: Faculty Overseer/SOB Leadership Team (LT)

Strategies and Tactics Who When
1. Reassign time to faculty to oversee academic advising in the school.
  • Audit files over the summer.
  • Audit the information given to incoming freshman.
  • Develop an institutionalized system of advising for freshman, sophomores and transfers.
  • Establish quality controls to ensure tighter compliance.
  • Train new faculty in advising techniques, the curriculum, and our students’ needs.
  • Develop faculty advisor handbook.

2. Ensure that all students contact their advisor.
  • Each department assess their ability to maintain contact with advisees. Develop remediation strategies if necessary.
  • Follow-up on how students are registering without contacting their advisor.

4. Monitor and evaluate the enrollment management process (2.5). SOB LT

Goal B: Improve faculty productivity and performance.

1. Institute a Faculty Incentive system:
  • Augment salaries with special incentives for rewards.
  • Create initiatives for external funding.

2. Evaluate performance in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Connect performance to release time for scholarship and/or service.

3. Improve schedules to have better productivity within the boundaries of the University and accreditation standards. Department Chairs / Dean  
 
Goal C: Maintain a collegial and collaborative faculty culture to the entire school.

1. Mentor faculty with an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Develop a mentoring program for new faculty.

2. Continue to hold school-wide collaborative open-meetings, assemblies and workshops.

  • Share scholarship through brown bag-type events.

3. Ensure the flow of School information to faculty.

Goal D: Regularly review our core curriculum and learning environment to develop our students into business professionals; make changes where necessary.

2. Analyze the integration of knowledge and skills in various business courses. Curriculum Committee

Goal E: Institute a system for assessment for the School of Business.

  • Determine what should be assessed.
  • Develop assessment program (faculty) for Fall.
  • Review/evaluate the assessment results and make changes accordingly.
