What is Bloomberg and the Bloomberg terminal?
Bloomberg, Inc. is a financial information company, providing accounting and market data on virtually anything that trades publicly in the world. It also subscribes to analysts' estimates, reports, news, etc and links to about any electronic source that a person would have interest in. While, Bloomberg as a news website with a small amount of current market data, the terminal is where the entire news, information and data offerings are available. The terminal is really just a dual monitor, a special keyboard, and a standard pc.

Can I log on across campus?
No, the terminal in Vance 205 are the only location to access the information from our subscription to Bloomberg.

How much does it cost to set-up an account?
$0. If you are affiliated with CCSU, then your account is free to you.

How do I set-up an account?
You need to spend about 15 minutes at the Bloomberg terminal and have a cell phone available to receive a call during the set up process. You basically provide information on several screens and then await a Bloomberg representative to call you and have you read a verification number that they will have sent to you on the screen.

Can I send information and data from the Bloomberg terminal?
No. The license agreement that CCSU has does not allow data and information to be downloaded electronically. You can, however, print out most screens in a hardcopy in Vance 205 and also save most screens as a .gif file, which can be loaded as a picture into a MS PowerPoint demonstration, for example.

How do I get help using Bloomberg?
First, there will be a room monitor that has experience in using at least some of the Bloomberg information- "universe." Second, if you type 'BU' or click on the "menu" key until you reach the 'BU' - Bloomberg University page, you will find on-line tutorials and instructions. Typing 'IB' at the prompt in the upper left hand corner of the screen will call up "Instant Bloomberg" which will allow you to send an instant message to a Bloomberg representative. These representatives almost provide immediate, superb help in how to do anything on Bloomberg.
