What is Finance?
Business Week (10/24/96) described the study of Finance as "the mainstay of business education." Since 1990 five financial theorists won Nobel prizes for contributing knowledge proven to benefit mankind.

Mission Statement
The Faculty provides a quality program that prepares students for careers and advanced study in finance. We support an environment for the development and application of knowledge through scholarship.

Instruction
Lower-level classes provide a solid base of quantitative and analytical skills while advanced classes focus on critical thinking and communications. Instructors use case studies and computer applications to develop students' abilities in analysis and problem-solving.

Finance Practicum
Students are encouraged to participate in co-op programs, internships and practical experiences. Students may earn up to three credits with appropriate documentation.

Opportunities in Finance
Financial skills are necessary for effective decision making in all areas of management. Our students are well prepared for careers in various fields:

Financial Management
The greatest number of job opportunities are in management of industrial, retail and service firms, as well as government and nonprofit organizations.

Money and Capital Markets
Banks, insurance companies and investment institutions employ finance graduates as loan officers, managers, and security and portfolio analysts.

Investments
Brokerage firms, banks, mutual funds and insurance companies employ graduates in sales, securities analysis and portfolio management.

Our Graduates
A recent survey of our graduates shows that:

  • Two-thirds found their first jobs in Finance;
  • Two-thirds are currently working in the field;
  • Two-thirds go on for advanced degrees;
  • Many alums hold professional certifications: CFA, JD, CPA, securities licenses, etc.

We are proud of our graduates and their professional success.
