What is Finance?
Business Week (10/24/96) described the study of Finance
as "the mainstay of business education." Since 1990 five
financial theorists won Nobel prizes for contributing
knowledge proven to benefit mankind.
Mission Statement
The Faculty provides a quality program that prepares
students for careers and advanced study in finance. We
support an environment for the development and
application of knowledge through scholarship.
Instruction
Lower-level classes provide a solid base of
quantitative and analytical skills while advanced
classes focus on critical thinking and communications.
Instructors use case studies and computer applications
to develop students' abilities in analysis and
problem-solving.
Finance Practicum
Students are encouraged to participate in co-op
programs, internships and practical experiences.
Students may earn up to three credits with appropriate
documentation.
Opportunities in Finance
Financial skills are necessary for effective
decision making in all areas of management. Our students
are well prepared for careers in various fields:
Financial Management
The greatest number of job opportunities are in
management of industrial, retail and service firms,
as well as government and nonprofit organizations.
Money and Capital Markets
Banks, insurance companies and investment
institutions employ finance graduates as loan
officers, managers, and security and portfolio
analysts.
Investments
Brokerage firms, banks, mutual funds and
insurance companies employ graduates in sales,
securities analysis and portfolio management.
Our Graduates
A recent survey of our graduates shows that:

Faculty
CCSU's Finance faculty are well-qualified. All are
PH.D.-trained scholars with extensive backgrounds in
financial management and investments, both domestic and
international. Their practical experience provides depth
to the academic material and enriches the classroom
experience.
