FINAL EDITION
“Book smarts”
Tom Walker, Denver Post Staff Writer
Give yourselves a pat on the back, you book princes and
princesses of Denver. You read enough to put the Queen City of the
Plains at No. 6 on the 2005 list of America's Most Literate Cities.
It takes a serious commitment to make it nearly to the top of the
heap of the nation's 69 largest cities. Researchers at Center
Connecticut State University considered newspaper circulation,
number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing
resources, education and the expansion of media to online resources.
Only Seattle, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and San
Francisco crack the books more than we do. Colorado Springs (19) and
Aurora (55) also made the list.
