Tip of the Week: Safety Notice      Image of a Trash Bag & a Trash Can

Please do not overload trash containers with heavy books, magazines, pieces of wood
with nails, broken glass, metal objects, etc.  These items are heavy and sharp and can
cause injury to the custodial workers.  Also, these trash bags can tear from the overloads,
and can cause additional work for the custodians and trash haulers.  For heavier or sharp objects,
please use cartons; if you do not have cartons, ask your building's custodian for them. Or,
ask for additional trash bags so smaller quantities can be bagged in each case.
Smaller, lighter loads are safer for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation.

************IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ************

In general, it should be noted that for safety purposes, asbestos abatement is performed by licensed and experienced contractors in a contained environment,  conducted in accordance with state departments of Health and Environmental Protection requirements, and supervised by the Department of Public Works. Negative air pressure, which allows particle material in but not to escape out, is  used to provide maximum protection. The abatement process is  monitored by an independent licensed Industrial Hygienist who performs air quality monitoring tests. These tests are performed before, during, and after the abatement process. Containment will be continued until clean air sampling has been achieved and the Industrial Hygienist allows the space to be reopened.  These procedures are utilized on all abatement projects on the  campus, and personal health and safety are the main priorities emphasized throughout the entire process, in addition to the complete removal of all the asbestos materials.
