Central Connecticut State University
Conference Rm 3
New Britain, CT
A Hazard Mitigation Plan public forum on will be held on Tuesday, February 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at Central Connecticut State University, East Hall Conference Room 3. This meeting is to discuss the Hazard Mitigation Plan that has been developed for the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (ConnSCU) plus Charter Oak State College. The Forum is part of a larger effort undertaken to proactively identify hazards and vulnerabilities and the steps that can be taken to reduce these risks among those institutions.
The Multi-Campus Hazard Mitigation Plan includes ConnSCU’s 4 state Universities, 12 Community Colleges and Charter Oak State College. The purpose of this Hazard Mitigation Plan is to (1) assist the campuses in identifying and reducing risks from natural hazards; (2) identify actions that can be taken to prevent damage to property and loss of life, (3) and prioritize funding for mitigation efforts. The Hazard Mitigation Plan will describe each campus’ vulnerability to the various natural hazards that are typically present, along with an array of actions and projects that can be undertaken to reduce key risks. While natural disasters cannot be prevented from occurring, the continued implementation of mitigation strategies identified in the plan will make ConnSCU campuses more sustainable and disaster-resilient.
The public forum at CCSU will provide an opportunity to discuss the Hazard Mitigation Plan, and learn about the work completed to date. It will describe some of the hazards that could present the greatest risks to campus operations. Members of the planning committee will be available to answer questions and listen to community and stakeholder comments. This meeting is designed as an open house where students, faculty, staff and members of neighboring communities are invited to attend the forum to gather information and provide feedback.
