In 1998, the University initiated the CCSU STUDENT VETERAN EXCELLENCE AWARD, which has been annually
presented on Veterans Day to a deserving CCSU student.  In 2002, the Award was named in honor of all
students who had been and are being activated since September 11, 2001.  The on-going list is presently comprised
of 149 former or current students.  For additional information on the Award and names of all recipients,
go to the
CCSU Veterans webpage.

Staff members of the University's Governor William A. O'Neill Endowed Chair's Oral History Project are
conducting interviews, as part of the Veterans History Project, with Connecticut veterans from
World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The tapes will be retained in the University's Elihu Burritt Library's special collections unit.
They will be complemented by personal journals, letters, service records, photographs, and other
veterans' materials, which will be digitized and archived.  Plans are in the works to make the
interviews available on CCSU's website.  Click here to access the Veterans History Project webpage.
