KEN COLWELL is Dean of the School of Business at Central Connecticut State University. He was previously Dean of the School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences at Long Island University/Brooklyn. Prior to taking his decanal post, he was Director of Entrepreneurship Programs at the University of Miami School of Business Administration and a professor of strategy and entrepreneurship at Drexel University. He holds a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Oregon and an MBA from San Francisco State University. He has taught Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, New Venture Planning, and Entrepreneurial Consulting at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels. Prior to entering academia, he worked in the financial services industry, most recently at Charles Schwab & Co., where he was a Director, Senior Project Manager, and Department Manager.
Dr. Colwell’s research interests revolve around university technology transfer and the strategic factors that lead to success for startup technology firms. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the emergence of nanotechnology as a distinct organizational field. His research has appeared in such journals as Organization Science, British Journal of Management, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing, and Futures.
