Steve Greatorex

CSU-AAUP Business Manager

Upon graduation in 1973, Steve was hired as a laboratory technician at Central Connecticut State University. In 1975, Governor Ella Grasso laid off 500 state employees and Steve’s position was eliminated. The collective bargaining law was also passed that year, which enabled state employees to unionize, and AAUP initiated a campaign to unionize CSU faculty. Steve served as an organizer for the AAUP’s campaign and after the faculty selected AAUP, Steve was hired as the CSU-AAUP Business Manager and since then has been responsible for all budgetary and financial matters.

In addition to his duties as Business Manager, since 1988 Steve has served as Treasurer of the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC), which represents all unionized state employees. Also in 1988, he was chosen as a labor representative on the Health Care Cost Containment Committee (HCCCC), which is responsible for overseeing all state employee health care plans. More recently, SEBAC appointed Steve to the State Employees Retirement Commission. Serving on these various committees has given him a unique understanding of healthcare and retirement plans, enabling him to better advise faculty members on these issues.

Steve feels that the most beneficial change for CSU-AAUP members has been the cooperation and collaboration of the thirteen state employee unions on various matters which enhance the overall welfare of all state employees.
