The
Ruthe Boyea Women's Center offers a variety of programs for the
CCSU community. Programs are conducted by trained peer-educators
from the Women's Center. They can provide informative and innovative
workshops on a variety of topics relevant to your class, organization
or group. They facilitate workshops to inform peers on the issues
that are relevant to campus. The workshops utilize a variety of
films, slides, and group activities. After each workshop, they conduct
a voluntary survey to compile annual statistics on sexual assault,
sexual harassment and dating violence incidents. To request a workshop,
please decide what type of workshop you want and call the Women's
Center @ 832-1655. Please have the following information
ready: date, time, location, # of attendees.
Question of Consent: When Does a Date Become Rape?
It has been estimated that 1 in 4 college women will experience
sexual assault or attempted sexual assault during their college
years. Through the use of date rape scenarios and audience participation,
this program seeks to clearly define rape, expose many of the myths
and facts surrounding rape, and identify resources and support services

l Killing Us Softly: Advertising Issues The focus
of this workshop is on media images and women. The workshop will
specifically address advertising, and how advertising affects us
individually and collectively we view ourselves and all women. The
workshop focuses primarily on women because it is women who are
exploited as objects of beauty and used to sell products to both
men and women(i.e. autos, beer, cosmetics - you name it) *1 hr 15

Heart on a Chain: The Relationship Violence Utilizing
the insightful video, "Heart on a Chain", this workshop will examine
the complex issues of dating and relationship violence. By engaging
students in group activities, this program will define various types
of relationship violence, explore the causes of such violence, and
identify resources and support services. * 1 hr 1 5 min duration

How to be a Better Lover: Men, Women, and the
Communication Gap In this provocative workshop, students will test
their sexual assertiveness, examine issues of their personal sexuality
and sexual decision making, and study the relationship between sex
and communication. Sex role stereotyping and gender role issues
are also discussed * 1 hr 15 min duration for coed audience only

Saturday Night Hookup "I met her at the bar...we
drank some more and I grew confident that I was not going home tonight."
This workshop examines the confessions of what happened after a
man took a woman back to his apartment. Through an interactive exercise,
students will be encouraged to explore how his views about women,
drinking, and sex turned a Saturday night seduction into sexual
assault. * 1 hr duration.
Men and Acquaintance Rape This workshop addresses
the lack of male understanding of sexual assault. The program seeks
to help men address the issue of sexual assault, and how society
perpetuates violence against women. The issue of consent will be
addressed and how men can make a difference in ending sexual assault.
* 1 hr duration Sexual Assault and Alcohol This workshop addresses
the issue of alcohol and acquaintance rape * 1 hr duration.
