NEASC Town Meeting January 29, 2008
MEETING MINUTES Status Report—C. Lovitt C. Lovitt began the Town Meeting with an overview of the Self-Study process and the University’s progression. He reported that the committee has been working diligently on the Description section piece and that this section of the Self-Study was slightly more difficult and more time-consuming than expected. C. Lovitt noted that the Description has been through two major editing stages and is currently going through its final modifications. C. Lovitt commented that this has been a very collaborative process; the steering committee chairs have done a great deal of work to gather the data necessary for this project. C. Lovitt plans to have the Description section uploaded to the University’s NEASC website within a couple of weeks for public viewing. An announcement will be made to let the community know when the Description section will be available. C. Lovitt continued with a brief description of the Appraisal section noting that, according to NEASC, it is a vital part of the Self-Study where the University identifies its own strengths and weaknesses. He added that NEASC would like the university to be honest about how effectively it meets the standards for accreditation, as well as realistic about its intentions for improving. C. Lovitt also noted that once the Appraisal section is complete, the Projection will follow. C. Lovitt announced that the University will be visited by Dr. Patricia Meservey, who will serve as CCSU’s site team’s chair. She will visit this spring to begin making plans for the NEASC Team visit in the fall of 2008. C. Lovitt informed the group that Dr. Meservey is the president of Salem State College and that she will bring a broad perspective to the Self-Study process.
