Standard 4:  Majors/Minors and Undergraduate Programs

Action Plan

For Standard 4.1, we need a list of all programs organized by school, with some basic demographics for each program.

To help address Standard 4.2, we will ask the Curriculum committee for their bylaws and to prepare a brief description of the curriculum committee process.   Tom Burkholder will write this section.

We are still unsure of how to address Standard 4.5:  “Degree programs have a coherent design and are characterized by appropriate breadth, depth, continuity, sequential progression, and synthesis of learning.”  We would like to consult with Dr. Lemma on how best to approach this.

For Standard 4.13 we will need to work together with General Education, but the above list of programs should be sufficient.

For Standard 4.14 we need a list of restrictions on General Education for each program, prerequisites for courses in each program and the number of electives for each program.

For Standard 4.19, we are going to prepare a Program matrix from the learning objectives,  correlating  them with “mastery of knowledge”, “information resources”, “methods and theories” and other “professional training” objectives.  Ultimately, we'll need to evaluate which learning objectives meet the “clear and articulated learning objectives” standard.  We also will need to see how much data there is to answer the standard “Graduates demonstrate an in-depth understanding of an area of knowledge...”

To address these standards the committee needs the following materials:

l        Mission statements for each school

l        Mission statements for each department

l        Mission statements for each program within the department (if applicable).

l        Learning goals and requirements for each program from every department.

l        Brief Demographics for each program:

-Number of majors

-Number of graduates in past 5 years

l        List of restrictions on General Education for each program

l        Prerequisites for courses in each program

l        Number of electives for each program

l        Program accreditation with link to accreditation standards (if applicable)

l        Any data regarding assessment of program graduates' proficiencies
