Check in with Career Services early in your CCSU experience & graduate to a great job!!

Freshman Year

Get a jump on things...  begin to explore both your academic possibilities and your potential career choices...

  • Visit the Office of Career Services Office, Room 100, Willard Hall or online at www.ccsu.edu/career.  Check out the programs and services available to you there.
  • Meet with a career counselor to learn about career resources and career planning strategies.  Take a self-assessment survey or an interest inventory.
  • Begin to explore your career interests and build your resume by participating in campus and community activities and organizations.
  • Attend a Career Fair on campus.
Sophomore Year

Stay a step ahead...  assess your progress in and satisfaction with your choice of major...  find out about Cooperative Education (Co-op) and/or internships...  seek part time work, a summer job or a volunteer activity related to your academic and career interests...

  • Check out the Resume Resource Packet online (www.ccsu.edu/career) and write your first resume.  Have it critiqued at a Resume Review Session in Career Services.
  • "Orient Yourself!" (www.ccsu.edu/career) to Cooperative Education and to Internships.  Begin to plan for your participation in one of these experiences.
  • Take an active role in campus and community activities and organizations related to your academic and career interests.
  • "Orient Yourself!" to Part-time jobs.  Seek a position that involves work related to your career interests.  View position listings online in your Central Connections account (www.ccsu.edu/career/centralconnections.htm).
Junior Year

Take a big leap forward...  enroll in the Co-op Program or try an internship...  pursue a work experience that enables you to develop skills and test out your interests...  begin networking with professionals in your career field...

  • Enroll in the Career Development Seminar for Co-op students or meet with your Academic Advisor or a Career Services Advisor to discuss internship plans.
  • Update your resume and learn how to interview effectively for a professional position.
  • Conduct Information Interviews and other networking activities with professionals in the career field(s) you find interesting.  Attend Career Fairs and Company Information Sessions to talk to potential employers.
  • Participate in your first Co-op work experience or in an internship.
  • Serve in leadership position(s) in a campus or community organization.
Senior Year

Take flight into life after CCSU...  cash in on your experiences in campus and community organizations, volunteer work, part time and summer jobs, internships, and Co-op...  take advantage of services available to graduating seniors in the Career Services Office...

  • "Orient Yourself!" to Career Services and activate or update your Central Connections account.
  • Complete a second (or third!) Co-op or internship experience.
  • Revise, update and perfect your resume and learn how to write a cover letter.  Get these documents critiqued at a Resume Review Session.
  • Consider graduate school.  Attend a Graduate School Fair.  Investigate relevant programs and meet application deadlines.
  • Participate in the On-Campus Recruiting Program and Resume Referral Service.
  • Attend Career Fairs.  Monitor job postings in Central Connections.  Conduct an on-line job search.  Apply for professional positions.
