Cost:            The cost of the program, exclusive of tuition and registration fees, is approximately $1,995 per person, based on double occupancy and a minimum of 9 participants.

Field Studies in Management

Students enrolled in this course will travel to Messina and Siracusa, Sicily, Italy on a field studies program focusing on current trends in business management.  Emphasis will be on American competitive advantage in a global business context and critical analysis of contemporary international business management and research.  The objective of this course is to provide opportunities to observe the application of the knowledge, roles, responsibilities, and skills required of modern managers. 

 

The academic program will include visiting local businesses, ranging from small scale entrepreneurial ventures to large-scale oil refineries.   Students will meet with mid-level and senior managers, providing an opportunity to gain insight into business practices in this region of the world.  Meetings with faculty and students at the University of Messina are also planned. 

 

Students will conduct independent research with a focus on comparative management.  Class sessions will be held on the CCSU campus prior to and after the trip to establish research agendas and present results.  The travel component of the course will occur March 14-22, 2008.

 

The cost of the program includes round-trip economy class airfare from JFK, airport transfers in the U.S. and abroad, 5 nights’ double occupancy hotel accommodations in Messina, 2 nights’ double occupancy hotel accommodations in Siracusa, continental breakfast daily, a day-long excursion to Taormina and mandatory supplemental insurance.
