Dr. Matthew Warshauer's Andrew Jackson & the
Politics of Martial Law featured in The New Yorker
January 24, 2007---Associate Professor of History
Matthew Warshauer's recently published book on Andrew Jackson is the
centerpiece of a 5,000-word review article in The New Yorker
(January 29, 2007). The article is available online and can be accessed
via
this link. The author of the article, Caleb Crain, describes
Warshauer's book as "lucid and well-researched" and then uses
Warshauer's research and interpretations to explain a pivotal moment in
US history that, Crain believes, bears on a present struggle in defining
presidential power.
