Student Newspaper Honored at National Convention
The
Recorder, Central Connecticut State University’s student-run
newspaper, received an honorable mention in the “Newspaper of the
Year” award category at the Associated Collegiate Press’ National
College Newspaper Convention held in Seattle this spring.
The 19th-annual convention attracted more than 600
students from throughout the United States and three other countries.
“It
is an honor to know that many journalists looked at, judged, and picked The
Recorder as one of the best in the country,” said Sarah Peltier,
editor-in-chief. “I am
extremely proud of the editors and staff who put in countless hours each
week to make the paper what it is: a national award winner.”
The
award is one of three honorable mentions for weekly newspapers and
twice-a-week newspapers at four-year universities. Entries were judged for general excellence, including quality
of reporting, writing, editing, design and photography, examples of
special project reporting and editorial page leadership.
“The
Recorder staff has tried our best to construct the paper and make it
as professional and reputable as possible,” noted David Bednarz,
managing editor. “Winning this award will hopefully demonstrate to future
generations of Recorder staff
members that it is possible to create a newspaper worthy of being
nationally recognized.”
