Language Teachers to Gather for All Day
Conference at CCSU
NEW BRITAIN – April 25, 2008 – Central
Connecticut State University will host a spring
conference for language teachers, April 26 in
the Robert C. Vance Academic Center. Titled
“Languages in the Community – Connecting the
Language Classroom to the Multicultural Reality,
the event is scheduled get under way at 9 a.m.
and run through 4 p.m.
Professor of Italian and Director of the Italian
Resource Center at CCSU Carmela Pesca will join
Manchester High School Spanish teacher Kathy
Sinisgalli and CCSU Modern Language Department
Chair Lilian Uribe in delivering the opening
remarks in Room 105 at the Vance Academic
Center.
Christine Brown, Glastonbury’s assistant
superintendent of schools will present the
keynote address.
Films and programs about teaching and studying
various languages and cultures are scheduled
throughout the day. Chinese, French, Italian
and Spanish will be represented. Sessions on
balancing and separating language teaching and
cultural teaching as well as linking the
curriculum to the community are planned. The
use of emerging classroom technologies will also
be explored.
The event is sponsored by the CCSU Department of
Modern Languages, the Center for International
Education, the Center for the Teaching of
French, the Chinese Culture Center, Connecticut
Association of Teachers of Spanish and
Portuguese, the Connecticut Council of Languages
Teachers. Also sponsoring the day-long language
program are the Connecticut Italian Teachers
Association, the EU/West European Studies
Program at CCSU, the Intensive English Language
Program, the Italian Resource Center and the
Summer Institute for Teachers of Spanish.
