Looking for a Halloween costume? Check out the CCSU Theatre
Department’s Costume and Pre-Owned Clothing Sale on October

NEW BRITAIN --
October 19, 2007 --
The
Theatre Department at
Central
Connecticut State University will hold a Halloween Costume
and Pre-owned Clothing Sale on Wednesday, October 24, 2007
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Maloney Hall Theatre Lobby,
near the corner of Stanley Street and Ella Grasso Boulevard.
“Everything is
priced to sell,” said Lani Johnson, professor of theatre and
department chair. “We are also selling hand-made quilts
made by the Costume Construction course at affordable
prices.”
She also noted:
“The Theatre Department offers a course in costume
construction for students interested in fashion or costume
design. It has become apparent that sewing is becoming a
lost art since most middle and high schools no longer offer
Home Economics. The new course teaches students the basics
of sewing, constructing historical costumes with pattern
drafting and draping, basics of tailoring, and the creation
of historical hats and accessories.
“Since it made sense to begin teaching sewing skills by
having students make ‘home-made’ patchwork quilts in the
class, quilts will be offered for sale at the Halloween
Costume and Pre-owned Clothing sale,” Johnson said.
All proceeds will benefit the Thaddeus Torp Theatre
Scholarship at CCSU. Checks can be made out to CCSU
Foundation. More information is available by calling
832-3151. Information about scholarships for students in the
performing and fine arts is at:
