Free Dance Performance Set for Welte
Auditorium
NEW BRITAIN- (October 16,
2007) The Central Connecticut State University Dance Program
will be presenting "Dance Connections" on Saturday, October
20, 7:30 pm. in Welte Auditorium on the New Britain campus.
The event is open to the public free of charge.
This collaborative
concert will feature Connecticut based companies, The Albano
Ballet, Judie Clark Dance Theatre, and Soma, according to
Catherine J. Fellows, Dance Director and Professor,
Departments of Physical Education and Human
Performance/Theatre, CCSU.
Dancers from the CCSU Dance Program will perform in
three pieces. In the first, No Shade, the ozone layer
has called it quits and life is essentially extinct. “This
piece was originally choreographed in 1993 in response to
global warming, unfortunately the theme is still relevant!”
said Fellows.
Chaconne, choreographed by Jose Limon will be performed
by the Dancentral company members. This piece was first
performed by Jose Limon. Dec. 27, 1942 at the
Humphrey-Weidman Studio Theatre, New York. "We are very
fortunate to receive the licensing to perform this amazing
piece. Not only is it a work of art, but it is a piece of
history," according to Fellows. “The student performers are
extremely excited to be able to perform such a historic
composition.”
Piazza Giordano is a modern piece that explores the
playfulness of women as they visit a new surrounding. This
work is choreographed by Jennifer Debritton.
The program will feature student dancers, professional
dancers and an array of choreographers collaborating
together supporting the CCSU Dance Program.
