CCSU and New Britain police to conduct DWI checkpoint on September 13

NEW BRITAIN – September 7, 2007 -- In a continuing effort to deter motorists from driving while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, Central Connecticut State University’s Police Department and New Britain police will conduct a DWI checkpoint beginning on Thursday, September 13, 2007.

The check point will be located on various streets adjacent to the CCSU Campus between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and 2:00 a.m. Friday.

Sergeant Chris Cervoni of CCSU’s Police Traffic Division notes: “Each year thousands of lives are lost, many more are injured as a result of alcohol-related accidents.  The CCSU and New Britain Police Departments hope that our combined efforts will provide a safer community for our students, faculty, staff and city residents.  Both Departments hope for a greater awareness of the consequences of driving under the influence and help reduce the loss of lives or injuries by removing intoxicated drivers from the roads.”

Cervoni also said that, in the next few months, CCSU police will conduct DWI awareness programs within the university’s residence halls.
