The
School of Business’ Office of
Student Services and Advising is
one of a kind at Central. The
mission of our office is to
create a home that supports our
business majors through academic
processes like college
transition, junior admission,
and any academic adjustment; all
with the goal of creating
well-educated, ethical,
confident individuals who will
become the talent for the
dynamic workforce that
Connecticut businesses and
industries will rely upon.
Students are admitted both to
Central and our School of
Business as pre-majors in
accounting, entrepreneurship,
finance, international business,
management, management
information systems or
marketing. They are granted
upper division status at their
junior year, if they have
attained our grade and course
requirements, and will then work
with faculty advisors and
mentors in their major.

The
goal of our office is to offer
the kind of services we
ourselves would want to
experience. This is true of our
student receptionists and all
our advisors. We are
well-known for walking students
across campus when further
information is needed from other
offices.
Our reception desk is totally
run by diverse student employees
who answer phones, make
appointments, give directions to
campus and, most importantly,
maintain the “student first”
atmosphere for which we pride
ourselves. We maintain an 8:30
am to 7pm office schedule to
assure availability for family
meetings for working students as
well as for traditional
students.
The School of Business Office of
Student Services and Advising
maintains a tutoring lab in the
Robert C. Vance Academic Center
for students needing assistance
in their statistics, economics,
accounting or finance classes.
We also have Bloomberg Financial
reporting terminals in our
office, and they are led by
trained students with the goal
of students’ learning to
perform high level financial
analyses.
Our
office also organizes the annual
First Year Orientation for new
students. When new business
students, both freshmen and
transfer students, are accepted
to CCSU, they receive a “Welcome
to the School of Business
Family” letter from us, inviting
them to a get acquainted meeting
where we explain both academic
and University policies in a
relaxed atmosphere.
Our office is responsible for
organizing School of Business
representatives for the CCSU
Fall and Spring Open Houses. We
always have a cadre of current
students to answer student life
questions as well as faculty
representatives from each of our
departments to talk to students
and their parents about each of
our majors, courses involved and
potential career options. We
have organized “Shadow Days”
where prospective students,
often Open House attendees,
arrange to spend a day at CSSU,
attending classes with their
student host, having lunch,
touring the campus, meeting our
Dean, and even attending an
athletic event if one is
scheduled.
The
CCSU motto of “Start with a
Dream. Finish with A Future” is
our mantra.
