CCSU Marketing Department: academics, energy and experience yield results
Jane Stoneback, Professor of Accounting, Central Connecticut State University

CCSU’s Marketing Department is known for attracting students with high energy from all around Connecticut. Our students are nurtured by professors known for academic accomplishments as well as real-world experience in marketing. The combination of motivated students, accomplished faculty, and well-designed academic curricula yields some pretty exciting results.

“The CCSU Marketing degree was the first step to success in my advertising career. If you have a passion for marketing, CCSU is a good place to begin,” says former student Deborah Roccapriore, Senior Media Buyer and Promotion Manager at KGA Advertising.

The CCSU Marketing Department recruits professors with strong academic credentials. Our faculty have earned Ph.D. s from institutions such as the universities of Georgia, Arkansas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Syracuse, and Texas A&M and the international universities of Sydney (Australia) and Bradford (Great Britain). The marketing faculty is engaged in all types of research. Faculty are engaged in such research areas as international marketing and tourism, business-to-business marketing relationships, validation measures for determining customer experience, destination marketing and entrepreneurship, price discrimination, customer-to-customer influences, and applications of discriminate choice analysis. The marketing faculty have published articles in such prestigious academic journals as Journal of Business Research, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Applied Statistical Science, International Journal of Business Disciplines, Journal of the Association of Marketing Educators, Marketing, Intelligence and Planning, Journal of Non-Profit Marketing, Journal of International Business Education, Supply Chain Forum, and Journal of Financial Services Marketing. Unlike at other universities in Connecticut, CCSU recruits faculty who also have good, practical experience in the field.

Central’s Marketing department is currently refocusing its programs to better reflect the technical and service skills needed for successful marketers today. The marketing program is designed to foster the analytic, technical, communication and interpersonal skills needed in the ever-changing business environment today. Marketing is about managing all aspects of a firm’s relationships with its customers. Marketing careers have the broadest scope of career possibilities in business today.

The enriched curriculum, such as the product development field experience, wedded with student opportunities to network with experienced professionals through the Marketing Club, internships, and co-op working arrangements, creates a fruitful environment for our students. Thanks to a blend of academics, experience, and student energy, CCSU grads develop successful careers in sales, public relations, brand management, market analysis and planning, data analysis and research, advertising and promotion, product development, logistics, supply chain management, and strategic planning—some of the hottest areas for job opportunities and career growth.
