Despite some wintry weekend weather, spring is
officially here. Outside birds are chirping, and CCSU students are
playing wiffle ball and free-style Frisbee in the campus quads. This
spring the campus is burgeoning with a variety of activities to engage
our students. These activities serve as an avenue for our students to come together as a community and take a hiatus from their studies so they are refreshed and reenergized for final exams. RecCentral, the campus recreation program, has blossomed under the new leadership of Ken DeStefanis and Mandi Scala. After a successful winter intramural season, they are holding spring sign-ups for co-ed soccer, volleyball and flag-football teams. Later in the semester they will be hosting kickball and dodge-ball tournaments. For those seeking classes, the center now offers a variety of group fitness classes from dance to kickboxing. |

For those students seeking time away from their
studies, Central Activities Network (CAN) invites them to “Fiesta ‘Til
They Siesta” during Spring Week. The week kicks off Sunday, April 22
with an outdoor showing of the movie Borat. On Friday, April 27, the
rapper Busta Rhymes will be performing on campus. As with a majority of
Spring Week events, this concert is only open to members of the CCSU
community. Residence Life is looking forward to the final event of the Dean’s Cup competition, Super Saturday. “It’s a huge event on campus,” said Caity Whitmoyer, president of IRC, the Inter-Residence Council. This event started in the late 1980s and features relay races and other competitions between the students of the eight residence halls. At the conclusion of Super Saturday, the Dean’s Cup winner will be crowned. Not a CCSU student? COLADA is hosting their 2nd annual White and Gold Gala. COLADA was founded in 1996 to promote cultural awareness through Latin dance. According to Kevin Croke, advisor to COLADA, the Gala began in 2006 as a celebration of the organization’s 10th anniversary. The Gala is a celebration of Latin dance and is open to the community. |
