Helping Students to Succeed Assistant Dean Sharon Braverman, Central Connecticut State University, School of Business, Office of Student Services and Advising
The School of Business offers majors in Accounting, Finance, General Management, Management with a specialization in Entrepreneurship or Human Resources, International Business, Marketing and Management Information Systems. All business students, whether first-time first-year students or transfer students, enter the University as pre-majors in their chosen field and are academically advised by the Office of Student Services, which is housed in Vance Academic Center 216. Once pre-majors complete specific courses, accrue 45 credits, and earn a 2.5 grade point average, they become upper division students in their intended major and they are then advised by faculty in that major till their graduation. The Office of Student Services takes pride in supporting our business majors from the moment the students and their families first inquire about admission to CCSU. We work with several offices in coordinating First Year and Transfer Orientations and Open Houses as well as a Shadow Day for potential new first year students where they attend classes with a junior or senior business major, have lunch, meet our Dean and tour our beautiful building, the Robert C. Vance Academic Center. We participate in outreach events designed to help our students find jobs and explore career opportunities. The School also conducts a speaker series for our students, designed to expose them to current business practices and future trends. We also guide students through the transfer and articulation processes that enable them to come to CCSU and continue the school work they started at one of the state’s excellent community colleges. We are exceptionally proud of our articulation efforts, which create bridges from Connecticut community colleges to our School of Business. Because we know how busy both our full-time and our part-time students are, our weekly hours are from 8 am until 7 pm for individual meetings. We take great care to provide our students with accurate, valid information and to link them to such offices as Residence Life, Bursar’s, Financial Aid, and others critical to their success at CCSU. We respect our students and treat each one the way we would like to be treated. Continuous feedback from our current students keeps us on the mark. If you know
someone who would like to explore a major in business at CCSU, please
call 832-3205. We’d be glad to help in any way we can. |
