Thanks in large part to Governor
Rell and the Connecticut
Legislature's passage of a bill
making CSUS 2020 capital
improvements a reality, Central
will be able to move forward on
several important projects that
will significantly improve our
campus and overall educational
experience. Here are a few of
the key projects we will begin
working on.
New Classroom/Academic Office
Building
The new Classroom/Office
Building will provide much
needed office space for a number
of academic departments, in
addition to providing much
needed classroom space. The
construction of a new
classroom/office building will
also allow for the efficient
renovation of the spaces vacated
in Willard and DiLoreto Halls.
New Public Safety Building
The CCSU Police Department is an
internationally accredited
police agency, and the first
college or university police
agency in Connecticut to be so
honored. The existing space-a
reconfigured |
residential home--cannot
accommodate the major functions
of the police. A new facility
will not only meet the long-term
needs of this vital department,
but also underscore the
University's commitment to
providing a safe and secure
learning environment for the
campus community.
Fire Code Improvements
A new fire alarm, smoke
detection and sprinkler system
will be installed in Davidson
Hall, the oldest building on the
CCSU campus and on the State
Register of Historic Places.
Carroll Hall
Renovation/Improvements
The University recognizes that
resident student needs have
changed over the years and
continues its commitment to
renovate its existing residence
halls to comply with
technological and deferred
maintenance requirements.
Carroll Hall will undergo its
first comprehensive renovation
since its construction in 1957.
Plans call for the installation
of new electrical and plumbing
services, improved heating and
air conditioning systems and
various interior room
improvements.
CCSU also has a number of minor
capital projects designed to
maintain and improve the overall
campus infrastructure. These
projects include door and
hardware replacement, water,
electrical and HVAC conservation
efforts, roofing and electrical
improvements essential to
maintaining campus services.
Additionally, faculty and staff
offices and classrooms are
slated to be modernized to meet
both changing building codes and
instructional needs.
The recently approved CSUS 2020
plan, a comprehensive long-term
capital infrastructure
investment plan, will enable the
University to address pressing
state workforce needs in fields
such as nursing, teaching,
engineering, science and
technology. Our plans for new
and renovated facilities will
provide the spaces needed for
preparing students to respond to
these needs and thereby
strengthen the state's economic
well-being.
