NEW BRITAIN – March
12, 2008 – Former Senate Majority Leader Robert
Dole will be this year’s Robert C. Vance
Distinguished Lecture speaker at Central
Connecticut State University. Dole will deliver
the lecture on Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m.,
in Welte Auditorium on the CCSU campus in New
Britain. Admission is free
According to CCSU
President Jack Miller, Senator Bob Dole is
recognized as one of the most prominent
political figures of our time with a
distinguished record of service. “Senator Dole
has given a lifetime of service to America, a
lifetime of affecting positive change, impacting
the course of history. We look forward to
welcoming him to our campus.”
Known for his
unconventional candor and prairie wit, Dole was
the longest-serving Republican Senate Leader in
the history of the United States. As the
Republican Presidential nominee in 1996, Dole
offered himself to Americans as an honorable
leader and one of the most effective legislators
of our times. In 1997, he was awarded the
Presidential Medal of Freedom as a tribute to
his character and contributions to the nation.
During the World War
II, he was a platoon leader in the legendary
Tenth Mountain Division in Italy. In 1945, he
was gravely wounded on the battlefield and was
twice decorated for heroic achievement. His
decorations include two Purple Hearts and a
Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. Dole is
married to The Honorable Elizabeth Hanford Dole,
current Senator from North Carolina.
