NEW BRITAIN -- January 18, 2008 -- Central
Connecticut State University’s
Hillel Jewish Student Club will host a lecture
by Israeli film expert Amy Kronish
on Thursday, January
24 in the Blue and White Room in CCSU’s Student
Center.
She will speak on “Understanding
the Other - Palestinian and Jewish
Perspectives,” a look at controversial issues
and trends in contemporary filmmaking using both
Palestinian and Jewish voices. The lecture
includes a selection of films on coexistence
education. The event
is open to the public at no charge, and free
parking is available in CCSU parking lots.
According to
Dr.
Moises F. Salinas, associate professor of
psychology and director of CCSU’s Center for
Caribbean and Latin American Studies, Amy
Kronish is a consultant in the field of Jewish
and Israeli film. She curates film programs for
the Beit Avi Chai cultural and social center in
Jerusalem that seeks to express and refine
Israeli Jewish cultural discourse. She also
organizes coexistence programs at the Jersualem
International YMCA.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Kronish was curator
of Jewish and Israeli Film at the Jerusalem
Cinémathèque.
She lectures and writes widely on film and is
the author of two books on Israeli film – “World
Cinema: Israel” (Flicks Books, Trowbridge,
England, 1996) and “Israeli Film - A Reference
Guide” (Praeger Publishing, Westport,
Connecticut, 2003).
Born and raised in the U.S., Ms. Kronish earned
an M.A. in Communications from New York
University, and has lived in Jerusalem since
1979.
“CCSU’s Hillel Jewish Student Club creates
opportunities for Jewish students at the Central
campus to grow intellectually, spiritually and
socially. Hillel helps students find a balance
in being distinctively Jewish and universally
human, and to support Israel and global Jewish
peoplehood. Hillel is committed to excellence,
innovation, accountability and results,” notes
Katie Roy, interim director of the Hartford
Hillel Foundation.
