CCSU Theatre Department presents contemporary Iraqi woman’s
viewpoint in acclaimed “9 Parts of Desire” December 4 to 8
at 7:30 p.m.
NEW
BRITAIN -- November 30, 2007 -- Central Connecticut State
University’s Theatre Department will present a contemporary
Iraqi woman’s viewpoint of life in that troubled land. “9
Parts of Desire” by Heather Raffo, who is of American and
Iraqi heritage, will be performed in the
Black Box
Theatre in Maloney Hall at the corner of Stanley Street and
Ella Grasso Boulevard from Tuesday, December 4 through
Saturday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m.
When it opened in October 2004, the play drew rave reviews.
Charles Isherwood of The New York Times wrote: “Current
events have been swamping the stage in recent months, as
politically engaged playwrights have vented their ire at the
at the current administration and its foreign policy … But
the voices of ordinary Iraqi citizens haven’t made the leap
from newspapers to the popular stage, and Ms. Raffo’s play
provides a welcome respite from the concentration on
wide-angle perspectives.
“It’s a reminder that the costs of tyranny and violent
conflict are borne not by some amorphous, insentient
collective population but by individuals, in this case women
whose lives have been frayed and fractured, sometimes beyond
repair, by their country’s tortured history,” the critic
wrote.
Tuesday’s performance is open to the public, and free
parking is available in campus parking lots. Thursday’s
performance is free for faculty and alumni. Tickets for
other performances maybe obtained by calling CENtix at:
