Dear CCSU Faculty: Recent studies confirm the positive impact that faculty advising can have on both student retention and success in college. The relationships that students develop with their advisers may influence whether they adjust to college life and complete their course of study. Beyond helping students make decisions about their college curriculum, faculty advisers can serve as mentors to students who help them cope with the demands of college and plan their careers, and guide them in preparing for productive lives as responsible citizens and lifelong learners in a global society. This Adviser’s Guide provides helpful advising tips, thumbnail sketches of important general education requirements, quick reference guides to important university policies, and useful websites and telephone numbers. We hope that you will find this Adviser’s Guide a useful tool in helping our students get the most out of their experiences at CCSU.
