The meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m.

MOVED:  To approve the minutes for the meeting of 11/4/03.

ANNOUNCEMENT:   The policy passed by this committee allowing instructors to change the grade of W for students found guilty of misconduct but withdrawing from the course before midterm was approved by the Faculty Senate at its November meeting, with the addition of the phrase “by the Judicial officer” after “found guilty of misconduct.” 

OLD BUSINESS:

1. The new application requirements for the BSED in Physical Education were returned to the committee for approval with clarifications added as to when the new requirements would take effect. 

Move to approve:  Mary Pat Hager/Chris Doyle.  In favor:  All.

NEW BUSINESS: 

1. Motion to consider late item (Design program admissions proposal) made by Mary Pat Hager/Rick Roth.  Approved:  All.

 Sue Vial presented a proposal for new admissions requirements for the Graphic/Information Design Degree program.  These new requirements are designed to limit the numbers of new students entering the program, as there are presently only four faculty to manage a program that presently has 400 students enrolled.  Discussion centered around clarifications to the proposal, after which Gene Baten moved to accept.  Several seconds.  Approve:  All.

 Text of approved Admissions Requirements for BA in Graphic/Information Design: 

 “Acceptance into the University and participation in the Pre Graphic/Information Design program does not guarantee acceptance into the Graphic/Information design major.

 Acceptance in the GID major is competitive and is limited by the number of students who can be accommodated.  A student must receive a score of 85 or better on the comprehensive assessment administered in DES 122 (Introduction to Graphic/Information Design) to be considered for admission.  DES 122 may be repeated only with the permission of the Department Chair.

These criteria will apply to students admitted to the University in Spring 2004 or later and students who change their major to Pre GID in Spring 2004 or later.” 

2. Due to the length of the first discussion and the absence of Sharon Braverman, the discussion of add/drop policies and policies regarding fully enrolled courses was postponed until the next meeting.
